This little patagonian city is the entrance to the Los Glaciares National Park, an area of such outstanding beauty and importance that it is now a world heritage site. Of the park’s thirteen glaciers, Perito Moreno is a rarity in that it is one of the few glaciers in the world thought still to be advancing. This incredible expanse of blue ice, contorted into crevices and caves as it flows from the mountains, is as startling visually as it is unexpectedly noisy. Hiking over the glacier whilst it creaks and groans and great chunks of ice crash into the waters below is a truly breathtaking experience, possibly only surpassed by the surrounding views of bright blue lakes dotted with errant icebergs and immaculate granite peaks soaring into the clear chill air.

On the border between Brazil and Argentina, Iguazú is in the subtropical, northeastern part of the country. Ushuaia, the hub of tourism in Tierra del Fuego, lies in the far south of the island. Dramatically located between the mountains and the sea, the town tumbles down the hillside to the wide, encircling arm of land that protects its bay from the southwesterly winds and occasional thrashing storms of the icy Beagle Channel. There you will find the End of the World Museum and the Maritime Museum. 12 km to the west there is the National Park Tierra del Fuego. You may also go to the Harberton "Estancia", or visit the lakes Fagnano and Escondido, or get the End of the World Steam Train, which make the same trail as the former prisoners who worked in that places. If you like trekking or mountain bike excursions, Ushuaia is an excellent place to stay
